AGTA Improving Lives In Jaipur - Silicosis Abatement Project Kicks-Off

AGTA Improving Lives In Jaipur - Silicosis Abatement Project Kicks-Off

May 31, 2018, 12:00 PM - 12:45 PM

Tradewinds A/B, Pool Level

After a year of preparations and planning, AGTA travelled to Jaipur India to initiate a Silicosis Abatement Project.  Silicosis is a depilating respiratory disease that can impact cutters of gemstones.  Working with World Health Without Borders and the Gem Hub, the AGTA measured the degree of airborne silica, surveyed the cutting techniques involved, and provided safety devices for workers.  Plans for long term abatement protocols and ongoing educational programs are the ultimate goal of the project.  Douglas Hucker will walk seminar attendees through the factory visits and discuss the challenges and opportunities revealed by this visit.
