December’s Birthstones Are Brilliant in Blue

December is here, and it brings its spectacular birthstones along. Just in time for the holidays, turquoise and tanzanite take the reins, both beautiful in their own shades of blue, alluring legions of fans around the globe.

Personally, we think tanzanite is the ideal gemstone for December, its purple-blue hue a nod to the cold weather, its presence as glowy as if kissed by the magic of a snowflake. It’s a stone that most consumers will find themselves unable to resist, the universally pleasing shade a versatile choice for everyday jewelry, with the power to wow.

Turquoise, with its cult following and growing fan base, seems to make the promise of warm adventures ahead, evoking the waters of some tropical locale, its attractiveness maximized when pictured against a summer ensemble of white. An excellent stone to use in jewelry for all genders, turquoise is jam packed with history—worn for centuries and in ancient civilizations, if it’s still managed to compel in modern times (and, it has), you know it’s a forever kind of stone.

Those are the classic headliners—tanzanite and turquoise—but an honorable mention should be made to blue topaz, a stone that experiences two months of notoriety, thanks to it being the birthstone of November. While last month’s birthstone is more specifically geared towards other varieties of topaz, blue topaz, being as popular as it is, often gets top billing—despite the fact that it’s actually one of the birthstones of December. Along with blue topaz, blue zircon is one of the month’s “modern” birthstones, and lesser trumpeted throughout December (but no less lovely).

Here, a roundup of the most delectable December birthstones from our exhibiting brands.
