Styles for a 2023 Jewelry Capsule Wardrobe

Fashion may move fast, but jewelry goes through trends too – just not at the same breakneck speed. Sure, you’ll see certain pieces burst onto the scene one year and disappear the next (remember hand bracelets and massive, feathered ear cuffs?), but even those will eventually make their way back around.

When you look back through the decades, you’ll see the evidence. Jewelry tends to borrow from one trend to lend to the next: ever so slightly changing shape or style, merging with popular silhouettes from years past to beautifully blend together. And this benefits the consumer (and retailers), because for those big purchases, you really are investing in forever.

But what does our current style capsule look like? If one were to bury an array of jewels marked ‘2023,’ to dig up again ten, fifteen, even twenty years later—what would be inside? And how much do you think the styles will have changed?

As of now, the zeitgeist is captured through chunky yellow gold—link chains, bubble-style and signet rings, talismanic or sentimental pendants and charms. It feels fresh and of-the-moment as of now, but look back and you’ll see we’ve been here before—and will be again. Which is part of what makes jewelry so marvelous, of course.
