Topaz: The Other Rainbow Gemstone

Rainbow jewelry is a staple year after year and continues to be immensely popular with consumers, but it’s often fancy color sapphire that’s at the center of these styles. Precious and durable, sapphire is an easy choice for jewelry that will last both in durability and style.

But there’s another gemstone that comes in a wide range of colors, from yellow, orange, and brown, to pink, red, blue, light green, and even white—topaz.

A Gem of a Different Color

Birthstone of November, topaz comes in such an amazing variety that the average consumer likely won’t recognize some of it. Blue topaz, both in its London and Swiss varieties, is perhaps the most identifiable, likely because it’s the most common.

It’s also relatively affordable, particularly when compared with sapphire. But that won’t be always the case. For example, imperial topaz—that red-orange gem that looks like a bottled sunset—garnered a higher price.

Imagine an engagement ring featuring topaz—not so common as the aforementioned sapphire or the classic diamond, but how lovely it could be. In orange or brown, against a satiny warm yellow gold, it’s a lovely option for anyone wanting a departure from the norm. And because topaz is thought to bring joy and good health to those who wear it, it’s a wonderful spiritual choice to wear as a symbol of love.

Versatility on Display

Here you’ll find some of the latest topaz selections from our JCK-exhibiting brands and designers—from the holiday season and beyond, you’ll find a glorious array of jewels for gifting and getting, for the self-purchaser or for someone buying for a special recipient.

The curation proves topaz’s immense versatility, with jewelry in sterling silver and two-tone designs, in yellow gold and in white. The wide price range exemplifies the gem’s ability to meet all budgets large and small, with some pieces over $5,000 and some even less than $100.

So when they ask, “why topaz?” You can tell them all the ways the birthstone of November excels, from color to price, category to style.
