Christmas in July: Birthstones in Red and Green
It will soon be August, the month that favors peridot as its birthstone (though sardonyx and spinel are its two other gem representatives). The glimmering green stone has an energizing presence, bright, juicy and alive.
But one would be remiss if not to pay tribute to July’s main birthstone, though to stock it now would likely mean you’ll have it in the latter half of the month. Ruby is rich, it’s riveting and it takes part in many knock-your-socks-off, high-end luxury jewels.
It would be a challenge, if nearly impossible, to not imagine the holidays when confronted with the mashup of red and green together. The season’s most notable color duo either inspires good cheer or anxious planning, but whatever the case, it’s December if the month were to be assigned a color combo.
You may have seen the phrase “Christmas in July” before, and it’s actually legitimate—well, as legitimate as a made-up holiday can be. Often celebrated ironically, and on the 25 of July, people throw small parties, The Hallmark Channel airs its signature corny, feel-good holiday movies and even some retailers offer “holiday” sales.
This year feels like an especially good one for an early holiday celebration, given that a pick-me-up (and something to do) is a necessity for many. While social gatherings may not look like they did this time last year, and retailers won’t necessarily be welcoming clients to their stores for big sales events, there is still fun to be had.
So while you consider your plans to celebrate late next month, take in the harmonious sights of red and green together in one collection: red ruby to honor the birthstone of July; green peridot to celebrate those born in August. Happy birthday, “happy holidays,” and may good health be with you.
